BACKGROUND:
This exceptional Grade 1 coffee hails from the esteemed Dumerso washing station, nestled near the town of Yirgacheffe in Ethiopia's Gedeo Zone. Owned and operated by the Birhanu sisters, Hirut and Mahder, who bring over two decades of experience, Dumerso serves hundreds of local smallholder farmers. These dedicated families cultivate their coffee on small plots, often just a few hectares, where coffee cultivation is a deep-rooted tradition. Yirgacheffe itself is legendary in the coffee world, celebrated for producing beans with unparalleled aromatic complexity and vibrant acidity.

Grown at breathtaking altitudes ranging from 1600 to 2440 meters above sea level, these Heirloom Landrace varietals mature slowly, developing dense beans packed with nuanced flavors. The cool mountain climate and fertile, iron-rich soil of the Yirgacheffe region create the perfect terroir for these indigenous coffee types, contributing to their distinctive character. This specific lot represents the pinnacle of Yirgacheffe's potential, showcasing the unique genetic diversity that Ethiopia, the birthplace of Arabica coffee, offers.

The magic continues in the meticulous washed processing method. Ripe coffee cherries are carefully pulped, then fermented (typically for 36-48 hours) to break down the mucilage. After fermentation, the beans are thoroughly washed with clean water and then slowly dried on raised African beds for approximately 7-10 days. This process results in an exceptionally clean and bright cup, allowing the delicate notes of bright Kaffir leaf, ethereal Jasmine, and soothing Chamomile tea to shine through with remarkable clarity. It’s a testament to the care taken at every step, from farm to mill, delivering a truly special and sophisticated coffee experience.
